Our Review Methodology

Two kinds of pages

Every provider page on this site is labelled in one of two ways:

• Hands-on review: written after we signed up for and used the service. We describe only what we actually saw.
• Overview based on provider documentation: written from the provider's public website and documentation. We have not tested the service, and the page says so.

Prices and specifications

Prices, plan limits and features are kept in one data file and shown on every page that mentions them. Each provider shows a "Last verified" date. Hosting prices change often and usually rise at renewal, so always confirm on the provider's site before you buy.

When we cannot confirm a figure, we say "Check the provider's site for current pricing" instead of guessing.

What we look at

• Plan types and who each one suits
• Introductory price versus renewal price
• Money-back guarantee terms
• Included features such as SSL, backups and a free domain
• Support options
• Test results (speed, uptime) only when we ran the test ourselves and can show the method

What we do not do

We do not invent ratings, testimonials, test results or publication dates. Affiliate relationships do not buy a better review.
